About this artwork Andy Warhol started showing a strong interest in the subject of money during the early 1960s. This is when he initiated the practice of sketching and silk screening images of dollar bills. By the 1970s, his focus shifted to the intersection of art and commerce. Throughout his stint as a commercial illustrator, and later transitioning into a fine artist, the connection between money and his art remained a central theme for Warhol. In 1981, Warhol created the series of Dollar Signs paintings, which have become some of his most well-known pieces since then. The 1980s marked a period that represented the fusion of art and money. Warhol once noted, “Being good in business is the most fascinating kind of art.”
