“This book contains everything you would want for a trip and once again Lynx have found a need and satisfied it.” José Luis Copete, Ardeola 67(2), 2020, 433-447 “I would recommend this book to those travelling to Cambodia or within neighbouring countries; Vietnam, Laos and Thailand. It is also useful for those birdwatchers and students of ornithology in south-east Asia who are comfortable reading English. Clearly, it will be drawn on by academics working in Cambodia.” Graham R. Fulton, Pacific Conservation Biology 26, 2020 “This is yet another high quality field guide coming from Lynx.” Dragan Simic, 10000birds.com, October 2019 “The format is pleasing and easy to read and use. Each species gets coverage with respect to its diagnostic features, including many subspecies and age classes, voice, comparisons to similar species and status. Every species also is accompanied with a QR code to allow free access to a wealth of free additional information. Finally, a free checklist of the birds of Cambodia is offered with each purchase. This is another excellent volume that the travelling birder must have!” Geoffrey Carpentier, North Durham Nature Newsletter 6(4), October 2019 Checklist with full taxonomy and list of species Download the Checklist of the Birds of Cambodia as a PDF file, specially prepared by the authors of the guide. You will find checkboxes to register your sightings, as well as invaluable information, such as the local hotspots where you’ll find the most sought-after birds. Unsurprisingly then, its principal attraction for birdwatchers is a suite of exceptionally scarce birds associated with wetlands and grasslands. Spearheading the list are the iconic Giant and White-shouldered Ibises, both of which are Critically Endangered, and a trio of almost equally rare vultures, including the iconic Red-headed Vulture. These rarities are the subject of an ongoing international conservation effort. The supporting cast includes Bengal Florican (also Critically Endangered), Sarus Crane (Vulnerable) and Mekong Wagtail (Near Threatened). Despite boasting just two endemic species, Cambodian Laughingthrush and the very recently described Cambodian Tailorbird, the latter’s discovery in the environs of the country’s capital Phnom Penh perhaps more than anything epitomises the potential to make cutting-edge ornithological findings in this still relatively under-explored nation. This field guide offers the perfect introduction to the country’s varied avifauna. Taxonomy follows the HBW and BirdLife International Illustrated Checklist of the Birds of the World. Detailed texts covering status, habitat and behaviour, age, sex and geographical variation, voice, and confusion species. Almost 1400 illustrations covering all species and distinctive subspecies, birds in flight, males and females, juveniles and non-breeding plumages, where appropriate. QR code for every species, linked to complementary audiovisual material. Close to 600 full-colour range maps for all species other than vagrants. Well-marked subspecies groups receive full accounts, and the distributions of subspecies breeding in the region are clearly mapped. Local species names included. Features: 629 species; 17 endemics or near-endemics, 1 introduced, 52 vagrants. Almost 1400 illustrations and c. 600 distribution maps. View all Reviews There are no reviews yet.
